Youth Programs Fall 2020 Update:

To adhere to recommendations for programs we are making changes to our afterschool schedule. Regulations are changing frequently and we are diligently working to ensure we are following protocol to keep your child(ren) safe and healthy. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience. Please know that we are doing our absolute best to provide the best youth programs for our participants.

Fever Screenings: all participants and staff will be required to participate in the fever screening process daily. Fever screening for staff members will be conducted before clocking in and participants will be screened when they are dropped off. Participants and staff members will not be able to attend programs if exhibiting:

  • Temperature greater than 100.4 degrees 
  • Cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, or other respiratory problems
  • At least two of the following symptoms: chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell 

Any program participants or staff may return to programs if one of the following has been complete:

  • Had a COVID-19 test resulting negative
  • Have been fever free with no medication for 72 hours
  • Other symptoms have improved and at least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared

Check-In: Check-In for car riders will be held from 3:15 pm to 3:40 pm daily. No child can check into afterschool programs after 3:40 pm. 

Check-Out: Check-Out begins at 5 pm and ends at 5:45 pm. All children MUST be picked up by 5:45 pm or a late fee will incur.

Fees listed represent one-time fees for 13 weeks of programming and we do have payment options and financial assistance available. Please note: Fall 2020 programs will run for 10 weeks. 

Junior Drumming

Offered during Spring Quarter. This is a fun music program that will teach kids through the art of performing to build on their self-confidence, leadership, patience and to create their own rhythms in life. Junior drumming will introduce children to drumming equipment and basic elements. All skill levels welcome.

YMCA Dance

Offered during Spring and Fall Quarters. This program is designed to teach kids at any skill level the styles of modern, hip hop, lyrical, step and contemporary dance. Dancers will be encouraged to show their creativity through movement in an environment that promotes self-confidence, unity and leadership. Dance moves will consist of basic leaps, jumps, and footwork, rhythm and freestyle techniques. Dancers will learn 2-3 dances to perform for family and friends at the end of the quarter. All skill levels welcome.


Cheerleading is offered during Winter Quarters. Winter season is Basketball cheerleading. This program is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of cheerleading. Participants cheer and perform halftime shows during basketball games. Ages 5 to 12. All skill levels welcome.

Teen Fitness & Gardening

Teen fitness is offered during Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters. Participants work out in the YMCA's fitness center under YMCA staff supervision. This program is designed to teach ages 12-15 appropriate ways to exercise. We do intend to make exercise fun for our teens. The program will consist of swim classes, spin classes, boot camp classes, and more. All participants need tennis shoes and athletic clothing. Teens will also have the benefit of working in your Y garden. Teens will focus on growing edible plants, including vegetables and herbs. Gardeners will gain experience on how to care for the YMCA garden: planting seeds, pulling weeds, digging, spreading soil and watering plants. Gardeners will also experience preparing foods from the garden that promote healthy eating.

Youth Swim Lessons 

Swimming is offered during Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters. A step by step progression of swimming and water safety skills that enable a child to swim safely, enjoy the water and use swimming as a lifetime fitness sport. This program has five main components: personal growth, personal safety, stroke development, water sports & games and rescue. Each skill level builds upon the preceding level, covers all the strokes, diving fundamentals and safety skills. Throughout all levels, students are taught aquatic safety, boating safety and rescue skills. Monday & Wednesday Swim Lessons are from 3:55PM-4:55PM and Tuesday & Thursday Swim Lessons are from 3:55PM-4:55PM. Drop off from 2:45PM-3:55PM. Please also see the aquatics page on the website.


The program is offered during Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters. Learn self-confidence, self-defense, and coordination. Taekwondo is an excellent program to teach self-discipline and self-awareness. The program also compliments many sports that children play. Taekwondo is taught by Master Castro, a certified 6th degree black belt. Ages 5-12.

Kali 4 Kids

Kali 4 Kids is available Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters. This class is a martial arts-based class that involves sticks.  Learn self-confidence, self-defense, and coordination. Kali Taekwondo is taught by Master Castro, a certified 6th degree black belt. This class will be taught on Fridays from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm.


The Athens YMCA buses in 23 schools per day. Transportation is offered for many Clarke County Schools, Oconee Schools, South Jackson, and some private schools. Please call or stop by the front office for details.

Price: $20 per day for the 13-week quarter. Example: if your child does 5 days of transportation, the cost will be $100 for the 13-week quarter.
