As the leader of our YMCA, I am committed to keeping our children safe. From swim lessons to chronic disease prevention classes, from day camp to clothing drives - all of our programs, no matter how different, must share a foundation of safety. Preventing child abuse remains the top priority for all of our staff members and is the foundation for our organizational policies. We firmly believe that every kid deserves a great childhood full of love, warmth, and promise. And everyone can help make great childhoods happen.
Along with countless other organizations, we are using the month of April, Child Abuse Prevention Month, as a springboard to spread awareness about child abuse and how to prevent it in our communities. Together with The Cottage Sexual Assault Center & Children’s Advocacy Center, we will host 4 “Y Talks” centered around protecting our children. These sessions are open to the public at no cost.
Please join our efforts to bring awareness to all families and community members by widely sharing this information. Our goal through this initiative is to use knowledge, facts, and statistics to motivate everyone in our community to protect our children. Our 50-minute sessions are offered weekly at 2 different time frames to accommodate as many people as possible. Registration is required and can be done through this link. Registration closes the day before the session at 4 pm. Past sessions are pre-recorded and can be found by clicking on the session date and title.
Our dedication to the safety of children in our organization and communities does not begin nor end in April. This commitment is ongoing and will take all of us to help make great childhoods happen.
Thank you for joining our efforts to give our kids what they deserve,
M. Shae Wilson-Gregg
